The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is preparing to release the long-awaited results of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), taken by nearly two million candidates across Nigeria.
According to information from the examination body, the results will be officially made public on Friday, May 9, 2025. The release will take place at JAMB’s National Headquarters located in Bwari, Abuja.
The announcement is scheduled to begin at 8:00 a.m., with results expected to be available to candidates before midday.
A brief notice issued by JAMB on Thursday reads: “The release of 2025 UTME is scheduled to hold tomorrow, Friday, 9th May, 2025; Venue: JAMB National Headquarters, Bwari, Abuja; Time: 8am.”
Earlier this week, JAMB shared detailed performance statistics of the 2025 UTME, giving insight into how candidates fared across the board. From the total of 1,955,069 registered candidates, only 420,415 scored above 200 points.
This means that roughly four out of every five candidates failed to reach the 200-point benchmark that many tertiary institutions consider for admission.
The data also notes that just 756 candidates managed to score above 320 points, while another 7,658 achieved between 300 and 319 points.
On the lower end, more than 1.5 million students scored below 200, raising concerns about general performance levels and the effectiveness of secondary education in preparing students for higher learning.
JAMB also noted that 40,247 underage candidates were allowed to take the UTME under special conditions designed to identify exceptional talent.
However, only 467 of these students, representing just 1.16 percent, achieved scores that met the criteria for outstanding performance. These candidates are still being evaluated in further stages designed to measure consistent excellence.
On disciplinary matters, JAMB disclosed that 97 candidates were confirmed to have engaged in examination misconduct. In addition, 2,157 others are under investigation for suspected malpractices and their results are being withheld pending the conclusion of the ongoing probes.
