The Borno State Governor has announced a new measure to address ongoing security issues in one of the state’s most affected regions.
Governor Babagana Zulum has directed that petrol sales be stopped immediately in Bama Local Government Area (LGA), including Banki and other nearby towns. This decision comes as part of a wider effort to support the ongoing fight against insurgents operating in the area.
According to a statement issued on Saturday by Dauda Iliya, the governor’s Special Adviser on Media, the ban followed close consultations with security agencies who are actively working in the state.
The statement notes that restricting the sale of petrol in this region is a strategic move aimed at cutting off supplies that may be reaching insurgent groups. These groups are known to use fuel for their operations, including mobility and attacks on civilian and military targets.
“I have directed the immediate ban on the sale of petrol in Bama town, Banki, and other parts of Bama Local Government Area with immediate effect,” Zulum stated.
