Fubara Came Begging With Two Governors – Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has revealed fresh details about a recent private visit from the embattled Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara. According to Wike, Fubara arrived at his residence in Port Harcourt, accompanied by two serving governors from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and one unnamed individual.

Speaking during a live media chat on Monday, Wike confirmed the meeting and described it as a move by Fubara aimed at seeking peace in the wake of their widely publicized political disagreement.

“Yes, he came. He came with two governors and one other person. Unfortunately, the two governors are APC governors, so I will not pursue them. And he said he wants peace, fine. I want peace,” Wike said.

Wike, who is a key figure in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), expressed concern over Fubara’s decisions in office, attributing the current situation to poor judgment and what he described as a “self-inflicted injury.” He noted that several influential political figures had earlier tried to intervene and offer guidance to Fubara, but the governor allegedly ignored the counsel.

“Indeed, this is a self-inflicted injury. He does not need it. When this thing started, I called him, Seyi Makinde was there, Ortom was there, Ikpeazu was there, Ugwuanyi was there, we were scouting. We sat him down and said this thing is not good for you… But all I am saying is don’t abandon people who have laboured for you day and night,” he stated.

Wike also touched on governance challenges in the Federal Capital Territory, particularly regarding the issue of open grazing. He noted that resolving the matter required caution due to its sensitive nature.

“The truth is that nobody is happy about it… Governance is not like when you are running a private business; you have to tread carefully, and we are doing everything we can,” he said, while explaining ongoing efforts to address illegal encroachments on designated grazing lands in the FCT.
