UK police have filed charges against a second individual in connection to an alleged assault from early 2023, which already saw American R&B artist Chris Brown arrested and charged earlier this week.
According to London’s Metropolitan Police, Omololu Akinlolu, a 38-year-old man and U.S. citizen, is facing one count of causing grievous bodily harm. Authorities said the charge stems from the same February 2023 incident for which Brown is already in custody. Akinlolu is scheduled to appear before the Manchester Magistrates’ Court in northwest England.
Chris Brown, 36, known globally for his chart-topping hits in the mid-2000s and his past legal troubles, was detained after reportedly landing in Manchester by private jet on Wednesday. Media outlets report he was arrested later that day at a five-star hotel in the city.
The incident in question occurred on February 19, 2023, at a location in Hanover Square, London. Police have not released specific details about the victim or the extent of injuries, but the charge of grievous bodily harm suggests serious harm was inflicted.
Brown was brought before a Manchester court on Friday, where his request for bail was denied. He is now remanded in custody until June 13, when he is expected to return to court. This decision puts his upcoming European tour in limbo, particularly shows scheduled for June 8 in the Netherlands and June 11 in Germany, which are already sold out.
Chris Brown first gained widespread fame with hits like “Kiss Kiss,” but his career has long been shadowed by legal issues. He was convicted in 2009 of felony assault against singer Rihanna, his then-girlfriend. Since then, he has faced various legal complications both in the U.S. and internationally.
