Kwankwaso Dismisses Reports of Planned Defection to APC

The former governor of Kano State and 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has firmly denied rumours suggesting he has decided to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Kwankwaso took to his official X (formerly Twitter) handle @KwankwasoRM to respond to the widespread speculation. He described the claims as false and misleading, calling them a product of political mischief.

According to him, the statement being circulated online, which claimed he had taken a firm decision to join the APC, did not originate from him or any authorized source.

He said: “My attention has been drawn to a statement purportedly stating my position on the recurring political realignments in Nigeria.

“I wish to categorically state that such statements are false, unfounded, and products of political mischief.

“I have refrained from commenting on contemporary political events, and I will continue to do so for the time being.

“I urge the public to only engage statements that come from my public handles and other official sources.”

The rumour appears to have originated from a statement credited to one Ibrahim Rabiu, who had claimed that Kwankwaso was already in talks to join the APC.

However, in a twist, Rabiu has now retracted his earlier claim and issued a public apology.

In his follow-up statement, Rabiu said: “I, Ibrahim Rabiu, wish to inform the general public that I was never authorised by Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso to issue and release a statement on his behalf.”

He continued: “I, therefore, wish to tender a public apology to his person with a promise that such childish act will never be repeated in the future. Please, find a space in your heart to forgive me. I was misled by fake news and agents of misinformation.”
