Abia Postpones President Tinubu’s Visit to Inaugurate Projects

The Abia State Government has postponed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s planned visit to the state, which was originally scheduled for Friday, May 23, 2025. The visit was set to include the official commissioning of the 6.7-kilometre Port Harcourt Road in Aba and the groundbreaking ceremony of the new Abia Medical City project.

During a press briefing held in Umuahia on Tuesday, the state’s Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, announced the postponement. He explained that the change in schedule was due to the President’s tight calendar, which made it impossible for him to attend as initially planned.

Kanu noted that the events have now been moved to a later date in June, although a specific day was not mentioned. He stated, “President Tinubu was billed to inaugurate the Port Harcourt Road in Aba and perform the flag-off of the Abia Medical City project. However, due to his busy schedule, the event has been rescheduled for next month.”

While the visit has been pushed back, residents of Aba are not letting the delay dampen their spirits. Kanu shared that a carnival will still take place on Wednesday, May 21, as a way for the people to celebrate recent infrastructural improvements made under Governor Alex Otti’s leadership.

The commissioner clarified that this carnival is a grassroots initiative and not a state-sponsored event. “This event, initiated by the people of Aba, has nothing to do with the government. The state is not spending a dime on it. It is a huge testament to the appreciation of Governor Otti’s transformative efforts in Aba,” he said.
