“We Are Ready to Join a New National Party” – Aregbesola Tells Supporters

Former Osun State Governor and immediate past Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, has revealed plans to align with a new national political party. He made this known while addressing members of his Omoluabi Progressives Movement in Ilesa, Osun State.

Speaking at the gathering, Aregbesola made it clear that despite rumors, neither he nor his followers have joined the Social Democratic Party (SDP) or any other existing political party at the moment. However, he stated firmly that a decision has been made and an announcement is on the way.

He said, “We are not just registering because we will join a new party from Abuja.”

Aregbesola, who served as Commissioner for Works in Lagos during the Tinubu-led administration and later became Minister under President Muhammadu Buhari, has maintained a distance from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in recent years. Political observers say his fallout with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu may have been a turning point in his political alignment.

During his speech, Aregbesola encouraged his followers to show their presence and strength at the upcoming coronation ceremony of the Owa of Ijesaland. “I, therefore, urge everyone to attend the Coronation of Owa of Ijesaland on Friday to show our strength,” he said.

He added, “Our allies are coming. Let’s show our political popularity in the state.”

Since his exit from the APC, Aregbesola has been relatively quiet on national matters and has not been politically active in Lagos, especially in Alimosho, where he once held strong influence.
