The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, on Friday gave a clear directive to army commanders and troops across the country: hunt down and destroy terrorists with full force and no hesitation.
Speaking during the closing session of the Nigerian Army’s first Biannual Conference held in Maiduguri, Borno State, Oluyede charged the military to double down on its operations to restore lasting peace. The three-day conference gathered top-ranking military officers from across the country to strategize on tackling the country’s ongoing security challenges.
“Ladies and gentlemen, there is no contesting our decision to completely neutralise these detractors to peace,” Oluyede told the gathering. “Thus, I charge each and every officer and soldier to spare no quarter in running these terrorists and criminals to the ground.”
He made it clear that the country’s enemies are those who aim to destroy the nation’s progress and stability. According to him, Nigerian soldiers must not allow such threats to flourish. He said the fight must continue until the enemy is completely defeated.
The Army Chief also noted that the Nigerian Army’s strength lies not only in its weapons but in the courage and commitment of its soldiers. He urged all senior officers to lead by example and provide solid mentorship to younger troops.
Oluyede said that the conference had brought forth meaningful ideas and practical steps that would guide the Army’s future engagements. “It is worthy to note that the depth of discourse and clarity of thought expressed during our sessions reflected the intellectual rigour and strategic foresight required to thrust the Nigerian Army into the future filled with unprecedented possibilities,” he said.
He confirmed that more combat equipment would be introduced into operations soon and that the military leadership would ensure that the strategies discussed are implemented. According to him, the goal of the conference had been met, and the outcomes would help the Army become more effective in securing the country.
