PSG Wins French Cup Ahead of Champions League Final

Paris Saint-Germain beat Reims to claim the French Cup on Saturday, delivering a strong performance at the Stade de France as they prepare for their upcoming Champions League final against Inter Milan.

The match saw PSG take control early, with Bradley Barcola scoring two goals within four minutes, quickly ending any hopes Reims had of causing an upset. Achraf Hakimi added a third goal just before halftime, sealing a 3-0 win for the Parisian team.

This victory marked a positive step for PSG under coach Luis Enrique, who will be hoping to carry this momentum into next weekend’s crucial Champions League final in Munich. PSG has yet to win the Champions League, making this season’s finale particularly important.

However, the night wasn’t without its concerns. Georgian winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia was withdrawn late from the starting lineup due to a headache and returned home early, according to sources close to the team. Desire Doue took his place in the lineup.

The French Cup final drew a crowd of over 77,000 fans at the national stadium. With this win, PSG completed a domestic treble for the second consecutive season since Enrique took charge in 2023. They now hold the Ligue 1 title, the Champions Trophy (France’s Super Cup), and the French Cup.

PSG’s success in this competition is historic. The club has now won the French Cup 16 times, including eight victories in the last ten years. The closest rival in terms of titles is Marseille, who last won the trophy in 1989.

For Reims, this was their first French Cup final appearance since 1977. The team hoped to win the trophy for the third time, with their last success dating back to the 1950s.
