A 75-year-old woman from Edo State, Nigeria, identified as Adizatu Dazumi, lost her life during the 2025 Hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia. She was from Jattu Uzairue in the Etsako West Local Government Area.
According to information gathered, Dazumi passed away on Monday at the King Fahad General Hospital in Makkah. The Edo State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board confirmed her death on Tuesday, revealing that she had fallen ill shortly after completing a major rite of the pilgrimage.
Chairman of the board, Musah Uduimoh, explained that the late pilgrim began feeling unwell after performing the Tawaaf — the ritual of walking around the Kaaba in the Grand Mosque. She was then taken to the hospital on Sunday, where she sadly died the following day.
“She was buried in Makkah on the same day, according to Islamic tradition, and her family in Jattu Uzairue has been informed,” Uduimoh said.
The board chairman noted that proper arrangements were made for her burial in accordance with religious practices. He extended condolences to her family and urged all pilgrims to remain calm, assuring them that the board is committed to ensuring the health and safety of every participant during the pilgrimage.
Uduimoh also noted that the board is working closely with medical teams and Saudi authorities to monitor the condition of all Nigerian pilgrims throughout their stay in the Holy Land. He reminded pilgrims to take necessary health precautions and to report any sign of illness to officials immediately.
