Deputy Senate President Donates N22m to Families of Kano Accident Victims

Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Jibrin Barau, has donated N22 million to support the grieving families of 22 young athletes who lost their lives in a tragic road accident in Kano State. The accident occurred last Saturday, sending shockwaves across the sporting community and the entire nation.

Senator Barau, who visited the victims’ families on Tuesday, was received at the Gwagwarwa Juma’at Mosque in Nasarawa Local Government Area. The visit was marked by sorrowful prayers and heartfelt condolences.

According to a statement from his media aide, Ismail Mudashir, Senator Barau offered N1 million to each of the bereaved families. “We are here to register our condolences to you over this tragic and devastating incident that led to the loss of our brothers. We, therefore, renew our faith and accept it as the will of Allah. May Allah SWT grant them Aljannatul Firdausi and give you all the strength to bear these irreparable losses,” Barau was quoted as saying.

The senator did not come alone. He was accompanied by the Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Yusuf Atta, the Managing Director of the North West Development Commission, Professor Abdullahi Shehu Ma’aji, and several other dignitaries.

Among them were former lawmaker Faruk Lawan, Professor Muhammad Ibn Abdullah (Barau’s Chief of Staff), and various leaders from the All Progressives Congress, alongside religious leaders and business figures.

The community showed deep appreciation for the gesture. The Chief Imam of Gwagwarwa Juma’at Mosque, Sheikh Adda’u Aliyu, speaking on behalf of the residents, noted that the senator’s support would provide meaningful relief during this painful period.

“We are happy and excited that you have found time to come here and sympathise with us. This means a lot to us. We can always see your tremendous interventions and projects going beyond your Senatorial District. May Almighty Allah reward you abundantly,” he said.
