Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has presented ₦1 million each to 39 wounded soldiers involved in the South-East joint security mission known as “Operation Udoka.” The donation was made during a special Sallah luncheon held at the 302 Artillery Regiment in Onitsha on Saturday, June 7, 2025.
The event was hosted by Major General Oluyemi Olatoye, Commander of both the Joint Taskforce South-East “Operation Udoka” and the Nigerian Army’s 82 Division. It was attended by senior military officials, including a representative of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, who was represented by Major General Adewale Adekeye.
Governor Soludo, while addressing the troops and guests, acknowledged the sacrifices made by the soldiers in tackling insecurity across the South-East. He noted the importance of their efforts in protecting lives and restoring peace to troubled communities.
“Today, we are here for a special Sallah lunch with the officers and men of the Nigerian Army 302 Artillery Regiment Onitsha Barracks. I want to express my deepest appreciation for their unwavering dedication in protecting our nation’s territorial integrity,” he said.
According to Soludo, the state government’s support extends beyond financial aid. He noted that all 39 wounded soldiers will also receive free medical care in Anambra State’s healthcare facilities. “We assured the wounded soldiers that they would be treated in the state-owned health care centres,” he stated.
Soludo also mentioned reports from areas like Ihiala, Mbosi, Isseke, and Lilu, where criminal elements have been pushed back due to intensified military operations. “The criminals are on the run… we want to believe, indeed their days are numbered,” he added.
Earlier, General Olatoye welcomed attendees and noted the significance of unity among security personnel. “It’s not just about celebration, but also a show of togetherness, reflection and dedication to service,” he said.
He further praised the soldiers for their quiet but effective service in difficult environments, saying, “Your vigilant and sacrifice often go unpublished and never unnoticed… your services are deeply appreciated and respected.”
Speaking on behalf of the Chief of Army Staff, Major General Adekeye described the occasion as meaningful and reflective of the army’s commitment to peacekeeping. He said the gathering symbolized the Armed Forces’ devotion to law and order and cooperation with civilian authorities.
He also acknowledged a recent successful operation involving the interception of a truck loaded with over 6,600 weapons, crediting the troops’ swift action and commitment to national security.
