Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Sunday led a group of top political figures from the state to pay a Sallah visit to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at his private residence in Ikoyi, Lagos. The visit was part of the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations and was aimed at showing solidarity and extending warm greetings to the President during the festive season.
Speaking shortly after the meeting, Governor Sanwo-Olu said the visit was in line with long-standing tradition where political and party leaders come together to celebrate with the President during special holidays. He noted that it was an opportunity to pray with him and show that Lagosians continue to stand firmly with his leadership.
“As is tradition during festive periods, whenever he comes around, we — the Governance Advisory Council (GAC) and leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) — come to felicitate with Mr. President,” Sanwo-Olu said. “It’s something we always look forward to. This is no exception. We have come to pray with him and to tell him that Lagosians are behind him.”
Sanwo-Olu also noted that President Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda” is beginning to bring positive changes to both Lagos and other parts of Nigeria. He said there were visible signs of development and progress as a result of the President’s decisions over the last two years.
“We can see and feel the impacts of what he has done in the last two years,” the governor stated.
Among the delegation were several influential leaders, including the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, and the Chief of Staff to the President, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila. Others in attendance included APC Lagos State Chairman Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, Senators Tokunbo Abiru and Ganiyu Solomon, Chairman of GAC Prince Tajudeen Olusi, and notable APC figure Cardinal James Odunmbaku.
The visit also appeared to quiet recent online rumors suggesting a possible rift between the President and Governor Sanwo-Olu.
