Defections: More Labour Party Leaders in Enugu Join APC

The Labour Party (LP) has suffered further setbacks in Enugu State as several important leaders in the Udi/Ezeagu federal constituency defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) over the weekend.

Among the defectors were Hon. Sunday Umeha, the current member of the House of Representatives for Udi/Ezeagu; Rt. Hon. Dennis Amadi, the Labour Party’s 2023 senatorial candidate for Enugu West; Hon. Emma Ogbozo, LP’s candidate for the House of Assembly in Udi North; Barr. Chibuzor Onyema, LP’s House of Assembly candidate for Udi South; and numerous LP executives from 40 wards and two local government areas within the constituency.

Umeha noted that with these moves, the entire Labour Party structure in Udi/Ezeagu had now shifted to the APC.

“Today marks a remarkable day as we align Enugu with the centre. We should be at the heart of national politics where decisions affecting Nigeria are made. Our journey to reconnect Enugu State with the federal administration begins today, with this official defection ceremony. This is the first time APC has an elected member of the National Assembly from Enugu State,” Umeha said

The Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, Chief Uche Nnaji, welcomed the defectors into the APC and praised their decision.

State APC chairman, Chief Ugochukwu Agballah, also commended Hon. Umeha for his leadership and courage in leading the shift to APC, joining forces with his predecessor, Hon. Dennis Amadi.
