Be Ready to Confront Terrorism, Insurgency – Army Chief Charges Recruits

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has called on the latest batch of Nigerian Army recruits to always be prepared to confront terrorism and insurgency challenges across the country.

Speaking at the Passing Out Parade of 6,195 new soldiers from the 88th Regular Recruits Intake held in Zaria, Kaduna State, Oluyede noted the importance of bravery, professionalism, and determination.

Lt.-Gen. Oluyede reminded the soldiers that joining the army means embracing a life of sacrifice, service, and dedication to the country. He urged the new soldiers to carry forward the values instilled in them during training — including discipline, loyalty, integrity, courage, and respect.

“As you pass out today and take your place in this noble profession, be aware that you will form part of our nation’s solutions to the challenges of terrorism and insurgency,” he said. “Therefore, wherever you are deployed, your actions must be a reflection of your training, and you must display courage in the face of adversity.”

The recruits began their training in January and have now completed their initial preparation to serve in the Nigerian Army. Oluyede noted that though their journey has just begun, they have been trained to handle tough conditions and must remain mentally and physically prepared.

“You have been prepared for anything the world will throw at you,” he told them, encouraging them to hold firmly to the values and oath they took.

He also noted that the Nigerian Army remains a professional institution committed to defending the sovereignty of the country and supporting national unity.

“You must be trustworthy and committed to a currency of excellence, determination, and selfless service,” Oluyede added, urging them to aim for high standards in their duties and actions.

On the issue of welfare, the Chief of Army Staff assured the recruits that their well-being would continue to be a key priority for the Army Headquarters. He asked them to take a short break after their training but remain alert, as the recruitment process for the next intake — the 89 Regular Recruits — is already in progress.

In his remarks, Oluyede also expressed his gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other leaders for their continuous support for the Nigerian Army.

“I appreciate the President, Commander-in-Chief of our Armed Forces, His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for his steadfast belief in and support of the Nigerian Army,” he said.
