A member of the House of Representatives, Joseph Nwobasi, who represents the Ezza-North/Ishielu Federal Constituency in Ebonyi State, has officially left the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Nwobasi made the announcement on Sunday during a gathering at the Ezza-North council headquarters. He appeared before a crowd of supporters and local party leaders, declaring his loyalty to the ruling APC.
The lawmaker said his move was based on the performance of President Bola Tinubu and Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State. According to him, both leaders have shown strong commitment to governance and development.
Nwobasi explained that he and his political supporters could no longer remain outside the fold of a party they now believe represents the best future for the state. “I am happy to join the APC. My decision stems from a desire to support Governor Francis Nwifuru and his administration fully,” he said.
He also noted the work Governor Nwifuru has done since taking office, describing his projects and empowerment programmes as “outstanding.” He believes his decision will help bring more development to his constituency and Ebonyi as a whole.
Joining Nwobasi in the defection was Kevin Okeh, a member of the State House of Assembly, who also abandoned APGA to align with the APC.
In response, Ezza-North Local Government Chairman, Chief Moses Ogodo-Ali, noted that the move shows unity within the area and strong support for Governor Nwifuru’s second term bid in 2027.
“Our people have agreed that no Ezza man or woman will contest the 2027 governorship. Governor Nwifuru is our sole candidate,” Ogodo-Ali said. He further promised that the next election would see a major increase in support from Ezza-North.
The Chairman of the APC in Ebonyi, Chief Stanley Okoro-Emegha, welcomed the new members into the party but also offered a word of caution. He asked them to respect party structure and avoid forming internal groups that may disrupt unity.
“You must work with other leaders and members in your areas to strengthen the APC ahead of 2027,” he added.
