BREAKING: IGP Egbetokun Arrives Benue, Deploys More Officers to Stop Killings

The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, landed in Benue State on Monday, June 16, 2025, following the recent violent attacks that have taken many lives in the region.

The Nigeria Police Force confirmed the IGP’s visit in a short message posted on its official page on X (formerly Twitter). According to the statement, “IGP arrives Benue, orders for additional deployment of tactical teams.”

This action comes after two days of violence that shook Guma Local Government Area and sparked major public outrage. Many Nigerians online are asking the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency due to the scale and brutality of the attacks.

Local sources report that at least 45 people were confirmed dead in the area, but some community leaders claim that the real number could be over 200. Several families were said to have been burned alive, and even security officials were not spared.

Residents have shared heartbreaking stories and graphic images online, pushing more people to demand justice and protection. There is growing anger over what many see as the government’s slow or silent response.

This silence is being compared to how quickly the Federal Government acted in Rivers State earlier in March, where a political crisis led to a state of emergency despite no reported deaths.
