41-Year-Old Woman Docked For Alleged Conspiracy, N8.8m Theft

Law Court

A 41-year-old woman, Oluwakemi Gbadebo, has been arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing a total of N8.8 million from her employer, a Lagos-based pharmaceutical company. The incident reportedly occurred over a two-year period.

The defendant, who has no fixed residential address, is facing two serious charges—conspiracy and theft. She appeared before Magistrate Lateef Owolabi and entered a plea of not guilty.

According to the court’s records, the alleged crime happened between the years 2022 and 2024 while Gbadebo was working at Remedial Health Solution Ltd., located at No. 35 Abisogun Leigh Street in the Ogba area of Lagos.

In court, police prosecutor Inspector Josephine Ikhayere stated that the accused worked with others who are still at large to carry out the alleged theft. Ikhayere noted that the total sum of N8.8 million was taken from the company during this time.

“The defendant converted the said money to her personal use,” the prosecutor told the court during the hearing.

The charges filed against Gbadebo fall under Sections 287 and 411 of the Lagos State Criminal Law of 2015, which deal with theft and criminal conspiracy.

Following the arraignment, Magistrate Owolabi granted the defendant bail in the amount of N1.5 million. He also stated that two reliable sureties must stand for her, and each must be able to provide the same sum.

The case has been scheduled to continue on July 1, 2025, for mention. At that time, the court is expected to review further details and determine how the trial will proceed, especially as the other alleged conspirators remain at large.
