Dr. Ahmed Audi, the Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), has strongly condemned the recent killings in the Yelewata community of Guma Local Government Area in Benue State. During his visit to the affected area, he described the violent attack that left around 200 people dead as “barbaric” and completely unjustifiable.
Following the tragic event, Dr. Audi visited Benue State to meet with families of the victims and local leaders. His visit aimed to offer condolences and assess the level of destruction firsthand. According to a statement issued by the NSCDC spokesperson, Afolabi Babawale, Audi was visibly disturbed by the level of brutality shown during the attack.
“Audi decried the mindless killing of armless women and children in the unfortunate incident that erupted recently, noting that there was no justification whatsoever for the gruesome murder of innocent citizens,” the statement said.
Dr. Audi also met with the Benue State Government to discuss the ongoing security situation. He noted that such violence must not be allowed to continue and assured the public that efforts are being made to bring the attackers to justice. He promised that the NSCDC would join forces with other security agencies to track down and arrest those behind the killings.
He directed the Zonal Commander and the State Commandant to strengthen intelligence-gathering networks and increase the presence of tactical units throughout the state. According to him, special forces, undercover officers, and intelligence teams would be fully deployed to help restore peace and prevent further violence.
“These killings must stop, and we must be very strategic, decisive, and resilient in our approach to restoration of peace and order in the State,” he said. “Just as Mr. President has directed, the perpetrators of this heinous crime must be brought to book, and we need to be on top of our game to make this happen,” Audi stated.
In addition to tactical support, Dr. Audi pledged more logistics for the NSCDC team in Benue. He also revealed plans for stronger collaboration with the military, police, Department of State Services (DSS), and community security outfits. This, he said, would help in gathering accurate intelligence and preventing further attacks.
Dr. Audi also noted the importance of working closely with local leaders and thanked Governor Hyacinth Alia for his ongoing support. He assured residents that the NSCDC remains fully committed to protecting lives, public property, and restoring lasting peace in Benue State.
