The former Governor of Zamfara State and current Senator representing Zamfara West, Abdul-Aziz Abubakar Yari, has declared that President Bola Tinubu will not rest until those responsible for the recent attack in Benue State are caught and brought to justice.
In a public statement issued on Thursday, Yari condemned the deadly attack in Yelewata, a community in the Guma Local Government Area of Benue State, describing the killings as cruel and heartbreaking. He said that President Tinubu is a leader known for taking firm action and not making threats without following through.
Yari, who serves as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Water Resources, expressed deep concern over the security situation in Benue and called for collective efforts from all citizens to help fight insecurity. According to him, the violence in Benue should not be treated as a regional problem but as a national challenge that affects everyone.
“The criminals will be apprehended sooner than we all can ever imagine. The president doesn’t issue an empty threat. He meant what he said and said what he meant. They will not get away with this, and whatever their motive was, we will also unravel soon. But ultimately, this madness has to stop, and it will stop,” Yari stated.
He noted that President Tinubu has shown strong leadership by personally visiting Benue State after the attack, instead of sending a delegation. Yari said this action reflects Tinubu’s concern and commitment to the people’s safety.
“His (Tinubu’s) decision to suspend everything he was doing and to also keep others on hold is worthy of note. If we understood the responsibilities associated with the office of the president, we would see the empathy in his decision to personally visit Benue,” Yari explained.
During his visit, President Tinubu met with survivors of the attack and held a town hall meeting with community leaders and residents. Yari noted that this direct approach shows that Tinubu takes his role seriously and is focused on restoring peace across Nigeria.
He urged citizens to remain alert and report any suspicious activities to the authorities. Yari believes that everyone has a role to play in defeating insecurity.
“Together, we can all confront this menace and decimate it. We need the whole-of-society approach to be able to defeat this monster and common enemy. This is the time we all must put on our intelligence garb,” he said.
