Just Few Days After Tinubu’s Visit, Suspected Herdsmen Attack SGF Akume’s Village

Suspected herdsmen have launched a deadly attack on Wannune community in Tarka Local Government Area of Benue State, the hometown of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume.

The tragic attack occured just two days after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu visited Benue State to discuss security issues with local leaders and top security officials.

A youth corps member posted in the area described the attack as shocking and devastating. “Everyone is running into the bushes for safety. Please let Nigerians pray for us. The herdsmen are ravaging the environment now,” the corps member told DAILY POST.

The attack has raised more concerns about the effectiveness of recent efforts by the federal government to control the worsening insecurity in Benue and other parts of the country.

During his visit to the state, President Tinubu held meetings with traditional rulers, political leaders, and security chiefs. He also gave strict orders to the Inspector General of Police and the Chief of Defence Staff to find and arrest those responsible for the ongoing violence in the region.

Just days before the attack in Wannune, another massacre took place in Yelewata, located in Guma Local Government Area. Reports from that incident said that over 200 people lost their lives, which led to national outcry and condemnation from various groups.
