The Governor of Benue State, Hyacinth Alia, has suspended his Special Adviser on Documentation, Research, and Planning, Mkor Aondona, following his arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over accusations of sextortion, blackmail, and cyberbullying.
This information was made known through a statement issued on Sunday by the governor’s spokesperson, Tersoo Kula. According to the release, the suspension is to remain in place indefinitely.
The decision, the statement noted, was taken to maintain integrity and discipline within the government and to send a strong message that unethical behavior will not be tolerated in public service.
The arrest of Aondona came after reports surfaced accusing him of using digital platforms to exploit and harass individuals. These claims reportedly led to the EFCC’s investigation, which eventually resulted in his detention.
Although full details of the allegations are still unfolding, the situation has stirred strong reactions both online and within political circles in Benue.
Governor Alia, through his media aide, made it clear that his administration is not prepared to protect any official found to be involved in criminal acts. He noted that Aondona must cooperate with the ongoing legal procedures and respond to the serious allegations that have been brought against him.
Kula further explained that the government will continue to support law enforcement efforts, especially when they concern the protection of citizens.
“The Government of Benue State under the administration of Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia remains committed to protecting the rights and dignity of all citizens, especially women and vulnerable groups, and will continue to collaborate with law enforcement agencies to ensure justice is served,” the statement added.
