Police in Akwa Ibom State have begun a full investigation into the death of a woman whose lifeless body was discovered in a roadside gutter. The unsettling discovery was made in the state capital, Uyo, causing concern among residents in the area.
According to the police spokesperson, DSP Timfon John, the victim’s identity was confirmed through a form of national identification found on her. “The name on the NIM found carries ‘Goodness Edem Israel’. Investigation is in progress; I will communicate further developments,” she said.
The case is now being handled by the homicide unit of the state police command, which is trying to determine the cause of death and find those responsible. Officers at the scene noted that the body had no injuries like cuts or bullet wounds. The only thing they observed was foam at her nose, which could be a sign of poisoning or suffocation, though this has not been confirmed.
Residents in the neighborhood where the body was found were shocked by the discovery. Some said they did not hear or see anything unusual the night before, while others feared the area was no longer safe. A shop owner nearby, who asked not to be named, said, “It’s scary to wake up to this kind of news. We need more police patrols around here.”
