The Senate on Thursday confirmed Thompson Oludare Sunday as the new Managing Director of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC).
During the same session, Kabir Sabo Kataka also got the Senate’s approval to serve as Executive Director of the same organization.
The confirmations took place after the lawmakers reviewed a report submitted by the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance, and Other Financial Institutions.
This committee is led by Senator Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru, who represents Lagos East under the All Progressives Congress (APC).
While presenting the report, Senator Abiru said: “That the Senate do receive and consider the report of the Committee on Banking, Insurance, and Other Financial Institutions on the confirmation of the nomination for appointment as Managing Director and Executive Director of the Nigerian Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC).”
The nomination of both candidates had earlier been sent to the Senate by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in May. This move was part of efforts by the administration to ensure steady leadership at the NDIC.
The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, formally read the President’s request during a plenary session before referring it to the committee for further screening.
