SDP Suspends Four Party Members for Misconduct

The Gombe State chapter of the Social Democratic Party has suspended four of its members over what it called “gross misconduct, political hypocrisy, and acts aimed at destabilising the party.”

This action was taken after a meeting by the State Executive Committee, where the party leadership restated its dedication to upholding discipline and unity within its ranks.

The suspended members are Mr. Aron Yakubu (Assistant Secretary), Usman Yahaya (Assistant Publicity Secretary), Lukaman Adamu Elkanem (a member of the Contact and Mobilisation Committee), and Musa Muhammad Ali (Chairman, Gombe Local Government SDP).

These individuals have been removed from all party duties while an internal investigation is ongoing.

According to a statement released by Abdulkadir Kumo, the SDP’s State Publicity Secretary, “No one is above the law of the party. These suspensions are necessary to preserve the integrity and unity of the party.” He also noted that the party will not tolerate actions that threaten its internal structure and progress.

In the meantime, Muhammad Adamu, also known as Auwal SMS, has been chosen to serve as the acting chairman for the Gombe Local Government chapter. Kumo warned those suspended not to continue presenting themselves as party officials. He noted that doing so would be considered a challenge to the party’s authority and could result in further consequences.

To investigate the accusations and ensure fairness, the party has set up a disciplinary panel. This committee includes Barr. Nuruddeen Bello (Chairman and State Legal Adviser), Dalhatu Bello Umar (Zonal Chairman, Gombe North), Ibrahim I. Jalo (Zonal Chairman, Gombe Central), Engr. M. Abdulkadir Kumo (State Publicity Secretary), and Muhammad Hassan (Acting State Secretary), who will serve as the committee’s secretary.

Speaking to party members and supporters, Kumo noted the importance of staying united and alert. “Let it be known that no amount of conspiracy, internal sabotage, or external manipulation will derail the train of progress we have set in motion.”

He also issued a strong warning to those who may be working against the party’s interest, stating, “SDP is not a playground for impostors or political merchants. Those bent on dancing to the tune of our opponents should take a bow now – the door is wide open.”

Kumo called on the public to rely on official information released by the party’s recognised spokespersons. He noted that misleading statements from individuals with no official position should be ignored

He ended by saying, “The SDP is not for sale, not for hijack, and not for compromise,” and added that the party remains loyal to democratic values and the people. “Our principles are firm. Our loyalty is to the people. Our commitment is to democracy. We are focused, we are organised, and we are moving forward – fearlessly,” the statement concluded.
