Police Nab Four-Member Tricycle Theft Gang in Kano, Recover Six Vehicles

The Kano State Police Command has taken down a group of four people involved in stealing tricycles, following the arrest of all members, including a 25-year-old woman.

In a recent operation, six stolen tricycles were recovered by officers after careful investigation and quick action. This was revealed in a statement released on Thursday by the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Hussaini Abdullahi.

According to him, the suspects were captured during a sting operation on June 17, 2025, in Kura Local Government Area, after the Police got strong information about their activities.

The main suspects—30-year-old Auwal Mohammed from Hotoro Quarters and Maryam Ibrahim, 25, from Bauchi State—were arrested after trying to steal a tricycle from a rider named Shu’aibu Aliyu.

The two reportedly gave him drugs in an attempt to take the vehicle forcefully. However, the Police acted fast and were able to arrest them before they escaped.

“The suspects attempted to dispossess the victim of his tricycle after administering drugs on him. Fortunately, a swift response by police operatives led to their arrest and the recovery of the tricycle,” Abdullahi said.

Following this, the investigation led to the arrest of two more people believed to be receiving and hiding the stolen tricycles. They are Suleiman Lawal, known as Aljan, 25, from Sheka Quarters, and Muhammad Tajuddeen, 32, from Kundila Quarters.

The Police confirmed that all four individuals are currently being held and will face charges as soon as the investigation is completed.

“A total of six stolen tricycles were recovered from the suspects,” the statement added.
