2027 Coalition: ‘We’ll Act Soon’ – PDP Warns Defectors, Insists Party Still United

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has sent a strong warning to its members thinking about leaving the party, saying it will not sit quietly while disloyal actions threaten its unity and plans for the 2027 general elections.

The party’s Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum, made this clear during a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday, after a meeting with the party’s National Working Committee (NWC). He was joined by other key members of the NWC as he spoke to reporters.

Damagum noted that the PDP remains solid and unshaken despite internal disagreements and outside pressure. He urged party members to stay committed and not allow themselves to be used to weaken the PDP.

“If you are a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, we are drawing a line for those who go out to demarket the party. We are watching, and we will take appropriate action at the right time,” Damagum warned.

He also pointed fingers at the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing it of trying to break the PDP by offering bribes or using threats. He said the APC’s efforts would not succeed because, according to him, Nigerians will be the ones to decide in 2027—not political games.

“To the APC, I send a clear message: you may continue to harass and attempt to lure our members, but the 2027 election will be determined by the Nigerian people, not by your manoeuvres,” he said.

Speaking further, Damagum noted that the current government under the APC has failed to deal with major issues in the country. He listed hunger, insecurity, and unfair treatment of citizens as problems the APC has ignored for too long.

“It is time for you to reflect and correct your ways. The issues of hunger, insecurity, and the arbitrary treatment of Nigerians are overwhelming and unacceptable,” he stated.

He said the PDP is focused on putting people first and following democratic rules. According to him, the PDP has proven over time that it can survive tough times because it is deeply rooted in Nigerian politics.

“We are in a democracy, and the voices of the people must be heard. As I’ve said before, we are not a conquered people. We are law-abiding citizens who deserve to be listened to,” Damagum added.

He asked PDP members to act as proud representatives of the party. He admitted that some may leave, but he believes they will come back once they realise what the party stands for.

“To those contemplating leaving, I advise against it. There is no party as accommodating as ours. But if they choose to go, I wish them well, though I am confident they will return,” he said.
