2027: Atiku, Obi, El-Rufai, Amaechi Join ADC-Led Coalition Gathering in Abuja

Prominent opposition politicians including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, gathered at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja for a public briefing organized by a new political coalition.

The meeting, which took place on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, drew attention as several well-known figures from different political backgrounds arrived at the venue. Those present included former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai and former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi.

Also seen at the gathering were Senator Dino Melaye, former Minister of Youth and Sports Solomon Dalung, and Dele Momodu, a well-known publisher and member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Two senators from the Labour Party—Gabriel Suswam and Ireti Kingibe—also joined the event. Another notable attendee was Emeka Ihedioha, who once served as Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives. Adding to the list of high-profile guests was retired Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, a former Chief of Air Staff.

This fresh coalition is forming under the umbrella of the African Democratic Congress (ADC). It brings together politicians from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), and other smaller parties. Their aim is to create a united front before the 2027 general elections.

According to insiders, this gathering is an early step toward building a stronger alliance to challenge the current leadership in the next election cycle. One source present at the event noted that the coalition wants to bring “credible voices from across party lines” together to offer Nigerians a better choice at the polls.

A participant at the meeting shared, “We are here to begin serious conversations about the future of Nigeria. People are suffering. We cannot continue like this.”

Another attendee added, “This is not about just winning elections. It’s about building a better country.”
