Seven members of the Akwa Ibom caucus in Nigeria’s House of Representatives on Thursday announced they have joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), the country’s ruling party.
The lawmakers, who were previously elected under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the Young Progressives Party (YPP), made their decision public through separate letters submitted to Speaker Tajudeen Abbas during a plenary session in the House of Representatives.
Those who have switched parties include Unyime Idem, Martin Esin, Paul Ekpo, Uduak Alphonsos, Eteh Ikpong, Emmanuel Udom, and Okon Bassey.
This defection comes not long after Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, also left the PDP and joined the APC.
