Joining ADC Coalition Wasn’t an Easy Decision – Peter Obi

Presidential hopeful and former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, has noted that adopting the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as the political platform for the 2027 elections was not an easy choice, but one made after serious consideration of Nigeria’s many problems.

Obi made the statement on Thursday via a post on his official X account. In the message, he confirmed that the coalition of political leaders had agreed to move forward with the ADC as their shared platform for the upcoming 2027 general elections.

“Yesterday, the coalition members formally adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the 2027 Nigeria General Elections with Distinguished Senator David Mark serving as the National Chairman and H.E. Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola serving as the National Secretary,” Obi wrote in the post.

“This decision was not made lightly. It comes from deep reflection on where we are as a country and what must be done to move forward,” he noted.

The announcement was made during a gathering in Abuja, where well-known political figures including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Minister of Transport Rotimi Amaechi, and ex-Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai also confirmed their participation in the coalition and adoption of the ADC.

Obi explained that the coming together of different leaders under the ADC banner is a sign of shared concern and commitment to change. He stated that the team is fully focused on the 2027 elections, with the aim of offering Nigerians a better leadership choice.

“Our commitment is to sacrifice and work together towards the 2027 General Elections, ensuring that Nigeria gets a competent, capable, and compassionate leadership that will prioritise the nation’s future by putting the welfare of Nigerians first,” Obi said.

He also pointed out that Nigeria cannot be fixed by one group or one individual alone. He said lasting solutions can only come through cooperation and unity.

“To dismantle the structures that keep our people in poverty and insecurity, we must build bridges, not walls even when those bridges are uneasy,” he added.
