A top member of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Kaduna State has died in a tragic car accident along the Zaria–Kaduna road.
According to party members, he was on his way from Zaria to Kaduna when the tragic incident occurred. The accident took place on the busy expressway, and although full details have not been released, it was confirmed that Zakariya died at the scene.
In an official message signed by Darius Kurah, the Publicity Secretary for the party in Kaduna, Zakariya was described as “a man of integrity, courage and vision” who was committed to justice and the values of democracy.
The statement also read: “Zakariya stood for truth, spoke with conviction and worked tirelessly to grow the SDP in Zone One and beyond. His memory will remain a guiding light to the party and the people of Kaduna State.”
Zakariya was known for his dedication to political work and often made the Zaria–Kaduna trip to connect with supporters and build the party’s presence in local areas. According to those close to him, this journey was one he had made “countless times” in his efforts to promote the party at the grassroots level.
Party members and supporters are now struggling to come to terms with the loss. His sudden death is seen as a major blow to the leadership of the SDP in Kaduna State, especially in the Zone One region where he played a vital role.
“The vacuum his death leaves behind will not be easy to fill,” a party supporter said. Already, friends, political allies, and supporters have started visiting the family home in Kaduna to offer their condolences.
