Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has approved a new leadership team for Kano Pillars Football Club, naming former Super Eagles captain, Ahmed Musa, as the club’s new General Manager.
This decision is part of the government’s plan to rebuild and strengthen the historic football club ahead of the 2025/2026 season of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL). The announcement was made on Friday through a statement from the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
According to the statement, the decision came after detailed talks with major figures in the football community. The previous board had just completed its one-year term, and while it achieved a decent 9th-place finish in the recently ended NPFL season, the governor decided it was time to add fresh ideas while keeping experienced hands on board.
Most members of the old board have been retained, and a few new names were added to bring in more energy and direction. A total of 17 people now make up the management board.
Ali Muhammad Umar (Nayara) was chosen as Chairman, while others like Salisu Mohammed Kosawa, Yusuf Danladi (Andy Cole), Idris Malikawa Garu, Nasiru Bello, and Muhammad Ibrahim (Hassan West) were included as board members.
Other appointees are Hamza Abdulkarim Audi Chara, Muhammad Danjuma Gwarzo, Mustapha Usman Darma, Umar Dankura, Ahmad Musbahu, Gambo Salisu Shuaibu Kura, Rabiu Abdullahi, Aminu Ma’alesh, and Safiyanu Abdu. Also, Abubakar Isah Dandago Yamalash returns as Media Director I, and Ismail Abba Tangalash keeps his post as Media Director II.
A major part of the announcement was the appointment of Ahmed Musa as General Manager. The former Super Eagles captain is not only a global football name but also a former Kano Pillars player. His return in an administrative role is seen as a bold and exciting step for the club.
Governor Yusuf’s office noted, “The inclusion of Ahmed Musa reflects our desire to blend administrative competence with football experience. We believe his presence will inspire players, attract investment, and rekindle supporters’ enthusiasm.”
