The Kogi State Police Command has apprehended Police Inspector Aminu Mohammed for his involvement in a series of home robberies around his duty station, ‘C’ Division in Lokoja, the state capital.
The arrest was confirmed by the Public Relations Officer, SP William Aya, who spoke to journalists in Lokoja.
According to Aya, “luck ran out of the officer following the activities of a notorious gang of armed robbers who specialise in robbing houses of household items and cars.”
The incident came to light when a car, previously reported stolen from a house on June 14, 2024, was found at a workshop. The workshop belonged to Arome Moses, a panel beater working on changing the car’s color in Ochadamu near Anyigba, in the eastern part of Kogi State. People who recognized the vehicle and were aware of the robbery quickly raised an alarm.
” The car was found in the workshop of the policeman’s panel beater, Arome Moses, who was already working on changing the car’s colour at Ochadamu near Anyigba in the Eastern part of the state.
“Those who knew the vehicle and were aware of the robbery incident that occurred at the owner’s house on 14th June 2024, quickly raised alarm upon sighting the car.
“The car’s plate number had already been changed to an Abuja number just as a car dealer’s receipt, backdated to 2020, was presented by the officer as his evidence of purchasing it.
“His panel beater had primed the car preparatory to changing its colour before the alarm was raised,” he said
Upon raising the alarm, the Quick Response Unit of the Police Area Command was immediately alerted. They swiftly apprehended the panel beater and began investigations.
Further investigation revealed that one of the gang members, already on the police’s wanted list for other crimes, confessed to the robbery. He admitted that the police officer, Aminu Mohammed, was the mastermind behind the operation.
According to his confession, they were specifically contracted to rob the house to obtain the car for Mohammed.
