The Independent National Electoral Commission has announced plans to open its online portal for Continuous Voter Registration in Akwa Ibom State on August 18, 2025, as part of preparations for the 2027 general elections.
This information was shared by the Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Obo Effanga, during his first media chat held on Wednesday at the INEC headquarters in Uyo. Effanga noted that the commission would once again roll out the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) process in the coming weeks.
“In the next couple of weeks, INEC will start again the process of the Continuous Voter Registration. Starting on the 18th of August, we will have the opportunity for people to do the online pre registration of processes,” Effanga said.
He further explained that this new phase of voter registration would follow the same procedure as before the 2023 elections. “Now this is not going to be different from what we did prior to 2023. You know that INEC has created a portal where members of the public who want to register to vote can process, go online, start the process and then only come to us physically for the capture of the photographs and fingerprints for the registration process to be completed,” he noted.
According to Effanga, the online portal is not only for new voters but also for those who need to update or correct their details. “For those who didn’t collect their cards prior to now, and if there’s any correction they want done to the card, they can do that. But from the 18th, people who have access to the Internet can do the transfer,” he stated.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner also pointed out that this online option will make the process easier and faster for residents who have internet access, reducing the crowd at physical registration centers. He noted that voters can transfer their registration from one polling unit to another, fix errors in their personal data, or even apply for replacement of lost or damaged voter cards, all through the platform.
