Two Killed, Ten Injured in Jigawa Crash

Two people have lost their lives while ten others sustained injuries in a road accident that happened on the Ringim-Kano highway in Jigawa State.

The incident took place on Thursday morning around 10:40 a.m. and involved two Volkswagen cars. The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Jigawa confirmed the report on Friday through its Sector Commander, Umar Mas’ud, during a briefing with journalists in Dutse, the state capital.

According to Mas’ud, the crash was caused by high speed and wrong overtaking. He noted that a total of thirteen passengers were in both vehicles at the time of the accident. All of them were said to be from Bareda village in Ikara Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The commander said the FRSC responded quickly to the scene to carry out rescue operations and also assisted the victims. Sadly, two individuals died from their injuries, while ten others were rushed to the hospital for treatment.

In addition to the rescue, Mas’ud disclosed that the Corps recovered a large sum of money belonging to one of the victims. “It is my pleasure to inform the general public that our personnel were involved in a rescue operation in the Ringim area on Thursday, and during the exercise, the sum of N2,166,700 was recovered,” he said.

He further revealed that after a joint investigation with the police, the money was handed over to the rightful relatives of the deceased and a survivor. The handover was done in the presence of the Divisional Police Officer of the area, ASP Abdullahi Ibrahim.

Mas’ud noted the honesty and dedication of the Unit Command officers involved in the recovery process. He commended their efforts in ensuring the money was returned to the families without delay.

He restated the FRSC’s stand on integrity and public service, assuring residents that the agency would continue to carry out its duties with openness and care.

Mas’ud also gave a warning to road users, advising them to avoid overspeeding and dangerous driving habits, which often lead to fatal crashes. He urged drivers to follow road safety rules to avoid putting lives at risk.
