Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu has made a bold declaration regarding his position and future plans. On Friday, Shaibu confirmed he will continue to serve as Deputy Governor until the upcoming governorship election, scheduled for November 11. This announcement follows a ruling by the Federal High Court in Abuja, which upheld his role.
Shaibu, who was reinstated after legal proceedings, spoke about his situation during an appearance on Arise Television’s Morning Show. He highlighted a significant issue that has marred his tenure—his salary has not been paid for the past year. Shaibu asserted, “I am the elected deputy governor of this state, and the court has reaffirmed it. I will be deputy governor until November 11, even though the governor has not paid me for the last year.”
Despite the ongoing financial and political challenges, Shaibu has vowed to uphold the law and carry out his duties with integrity. He stressed his commitment to maintaining peace and respecting legal processes, stating, “I am a law-abiding citizen and will go to the office this morning. If they want to stop me, they should. I will not do anything that would lead to the loss of life. I have been maintaining peace; the office of the deputy governor must be given its rightful respect.”
Shaibu also addressed his working relationship with Governor Godwin Obaseki, indicating he will continue to perform his duties regardless of whether he is granted a meeting with the governor. “I will resume in the office and face my work. If the governor allows me to see him, I will, and if not, I will still face my work,” he said.
