Dangote: NNPC Chief Mele Kyari Refutes Claims of Owning Maltese Blending Plant

Mele Kyari, the Group Chief Executive Officer of Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC), has firmly denied claims of owning a blending plant in Malta or elsewhere. His statement comes in response to recent allegations made by Alhaji Aliko Dangote, Chairman of Dangote Group.

Dangote’s remarks, which spread quickly online, suggested that NNPC employees are involved in operating a blending plant in Malta. According to Dangote, this facility is being used to import and distribute adulterated petroleum products into Nigeria, a claim that has raised serious concerns.

Kyari addressed these accusations in a statement posted on his official X (formerly Twitter) account. He wrote: “I am inundated by enquiries from family members, friends, and associates on the public declaration by the President of Dangote Group that some NNPC workers have established a blending plant in Malta thereby impeding procurements from local production of Petroleum products.”

Kyari clarified, “To clarify the allegations regarding blending plant, I do not own or operate any business directly or by proxy anywhere in the world with the exception of a local mini Agric venture. Neither am I aware of any employee of the NNPC, that owns or operates a blending plant in Malta or anywhere else in the world.”

He further stated that a blending plant in Malta would have no impact on NNPC’s business operations. Kyari also emphasized that any NNPC employee found involved in such activities would face strict compliance sanctions.
