A startling incident at the Kano State Government House has brought significant attention after Hajiya Bilkisu, a local resident, accused Malam Baban Iya, the Chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area, of physically assaulting her. The event unfolded during the state’s monthly women empowerment program, where Hajiya Bilkisu was expecting to receive N50,000.
According to Hajiya Bilkisu, trouble started when she discovered her name had been removed from the list of beneficiaries. This unexpected exclusion led her to seek answers, prompting an official to summon Malam Baban Iya to address the situation. Upon arrival, the NNPP Chairman reportedly attacked her violently.
Speaking from her hospital bed, Hajiya Bilkisu detailed the extent of her injuries, which included severe damage to her face, chest, back, and neck. “I was in line for the N50,000 empowerment fund when I noticed my name was missing. I asked for help, but instead, I was beaten brutally,” she recounted.
She has called on the police to investigate the incident thoroughly and ensure justice is served. “I want the authorities to take this matter seriously and make sure such an incident does not happen to anyone else,” she said.
When approached for his side of the story, Malam Baban Iya admitted to striking the woman but claimed the altercation was due to a different issue, without providing further details.
The Kano State Police, represented by spokesman SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, confirmed they are aware of the allegations and will launch a full investigation into the matter. “We are committed to uncovering the truth and ensuring justice prevails,” he stated.
