“I Was Married To Eight Boko Haram Men, Had Children For Them” – Freed Chibok girl

Ihyi Abdul, one of the girls abducted by Boko Haram terrorists from Chibok, Borno State in April 2014, has shared her harrowing experience of captivity. Speaking with Daily Trust, Ihyi revealed the unimaginable trials she endured during her time with the insurgents.

Ihyi’s life took a tragic turn when she was forced into marriage with eight different Boko Haram members over the years, resulting in the birth of three children. “I married eight (Boko Haram) men and gave birth to three children for different husbands,” she recounted. Her account sheds light on the severe physical and emotional trauma the kidnapped girls have faced.

Escaping from captivity was no small feat. Ihyi narrated how she and her children walked for several days before finally reaching a military checkpoint, where they were rescued and brought to safety. This journey marked the end of her nightmarish ordeal but also the beginning of a new, uncertain chapter in her life.

Despite the freedom, Ihyi expressed deep concerns about her future, especially regarding her education. “I am not sure if I will be able to continue with education,” she admitted, reflecting the difficult choices and challenges ahead.

Ihyi also mentioned that not all the abducted Chibok girls were held together. Some, like her, have managed to escape, while others remain in captivity. “We the Chibok girls are not kept in the same camp,” she said, highlighting the fragmented and isolated conditions they were subjected to.
