BREAKING: Ohanaeze Leader Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu Passes Away at 82

Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, the respected President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has passed away at the age of 82.

The sad news was confirmed by his son, Jide, in a heartfelt statement released on Thursday.

“The Iwuanyanwu family of Umuohii Atta, in Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State announces the demise of our patriarch, Engr Chief Emmanuel Chukwuemeka Iwuanyanwu-Ahaejiagamba Ndigbo,” the statement read. “Chief Iwuanyanwu died on Thursday, July 25, 2024, after a brief illness. He was aged 82.”

Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu was not only a prominent leader in the Igbo community but also a successful businessman and influential politician.

He was born in September 1942 in Umuohii, Ikeduru LGA, Imo State, and had a long and impactful career. Iwuanyanwu was serving as the 11th President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, an organization that represents the interests of the Igbo people worldwide, and was also the President of Owerri Peoples Assembly.

The passing of Chief Iwuanyanwu has left a significant void in the Igbo community. Ohanaeze Ndigbo expressed their deep sorrow, stating, “Today is a bad day for Ndigbo,” reflecting the widespread grief felt by many.

Chief Iwuanyanwu leaves behind his wife, Frances Iwuanyanwu, numerous children, and grandchildren. The family mentioned that funeral arrangements will be announced after necessary consultations are made.
