JUST IN: Several Injured as Police Teargas Protesters in Abuja

Tensions flared in the heart of Nigeria’s capital, Abuja, as police used teargas to break up a large protest near the Federal Secretariat. The demonstration was part of a larger national campaign known as “10 Days of Rage,” which calls for urgent measures to address severe economic challenges and escalating inflation.

The protest was initially meant to be confined to the MKO Abiola Stadium, following a restriction order issued by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court. However, many demonstrators chose to ignore this order and gathered around the Federal Secretariat instead. This defiance led to intense confrontations between the protesters and the police.

The situation quickly escalated, resulting in the deployment of teargas by security forces to disperse the crowd. This action caused chaos and led to several injuries among both protesters and police officers. The protest, which has been gaining traction across the country, has drawn a significant police presence to maintain order and manage the growing unrest.
