Thousands of determined protesters in Abuja have seized control of the Federal Secretariat Complex. Security forces had previously blocked their access to the Eagle Square Complex, using hundreds of teargas canisters to try and disperse them.
Despite this aggressive response, the protesters, undeterred, regrouped at the Finance Junction on Ahmadu Bello Way. Here, they were joined by even more residents from across Abuja, swelling their ranks and gaining momentum. The large and growing crowd is putting immense pressure on the security troops present.
The demonstration, driven by widespread anger over hunger and economic hardship, has shown no signs of slowing down. The use of teargas by security agencies, intended to break up the protest, has instead motivated more people to join the cause, with the crowd growing larger by the hour.
