Nationwide Protests: Four Killed in Maiduguri Explosion

In the midst of escalating protests in Maiduguri, four people, believed to be workers, were killed at the Kime filling station near Bolori junction. The incident, which has caused significant concern, happened while the state was experiencing widespread unrest.

Eyewitnesses report that the victims were found in a pool of their own blood. Videos of the aftermath quickly spread across social media, drawing attention to the tragic event.

In response to the increasing violence, the police have enforced a 24-hour curfew across the state. This decision follows a bomb explosion in Kawuri village in the Konduga local government area, which resulted in 20 deaths and left 16 people injured. The curfew aims to prevent further violence and protect citizens during these turbulent times.

Conflicting accounts have emerged regarding the cause of death of the victims at the filling station. Some sources suggest that the individuals were struck by stray bullets. However, others argue there were no visible signs of gunshots on the bodies. This discrepancy has fueled speculation and uncertainty about what truly happened.

A station attendant, Baba Musa, shared his harrowing experience over the phone. He stated, “It was an explosion that took place and killed four persons instantly, while I managed and escape unhurt.”

Alhaji Mohammed Kuluwu, Chairman of the Independent Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) in Borno State, confirmed the fatalities. He mentioned that he has been trying to contact the station’s director to get more information but has been unsuccessful so far.
