Katsina NSCDC Officer’s Injury Due to Accident, Not Shooting — Police

The Katsina State Police Command has issued a statement clarifying that recent claims of a shooting during nationwide hunger protests are unfounded. The statement, released on Saturday by ASP Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, addresses concerns over a viral video circulating on social media.

The video in question shows a security agent lying motionless on the ground, with accusations suggesting that the individual had been shot by police officers while they were managing the protests. ASP Sadiq-Aliyu dismissed these claims, labeling the video as misleading and taken out of context.

According to the police, the individual seen in the video is a member of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC). He sustained his injuries after falling from a patrol vehicle due to an accident that occurred at the protest site. The officer was promptly taken to the Federal Teaching Hospital in Katsina, where he received medical treatment and has since been discharged.

ASP Sadiq-Aliyu urged the public to ignore what he described as ‘misinformation’ and to verify news through official sources. He reassured residents that there were no shooting incidents reported during the protests and emphasized the police’s commitment to maintaining public safety.

The police also reiterated their dedication to professionalism and collaboration with other security agencies to ensure peace and order in Katsina State. The statement concluded with an assurance of the ongoing efforts to uphold stability and address any concerns the public may have.
