Organizers of the ongoing protests against hardship and poor governance have announced their intention to continue their demonstrations today at Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Park in Ojota, Lagos.
In a statement released on Sunday, organizers Hassan Taiwo, Ayoyinka Oni, and Adegboyega Adeniji expressed their determination to resume their protests despite President Tinubu’s recent address to the nation. The President’s broadcast, which acknowledged the concerns of the protesters, also included a call for the demonstrations to be suspended in favor of dialogue.
The statement from the organizers highlighted their view that the President’s decision to address the nation was a significant achievement for their movement.
Part of the statement read: “We consider the President’s decision to address the nation an important victory for our movement.
“Without our courage and resolve to dare the odds, even this acknowledgement would not have happened. So far, we have demonstrated that a President is not greater than the rest of the country.
“In our view, the president cannot be approbating and reprobating at the same time. The President cannot offer an olive branch while at the same time holding a dagger to our throat.”
