INEC Publishes Final Voter Registers for Edo, Ondo Governorship Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the final list of voters for the upcoming governorship elections in Edo and Ondo states. This announcement was made by Mr. Sam Olumekun, the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, in a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday.

The newly released data reveals that Edo State has a total of 2,629,025 registered voters. Among these voters, 1,370,061 (52.11%) are male, while 1,258,964 (47.89%) are female. The youth demographic, aged between 18 and 35 years, represents 983,133 voters (37.4%). Meanwhile, individuals aged 36 to 49 account for 914,806 voters. Combined, these two age groups make up 1,897,939 voters, which is 72.2% of the total registered voters in Edo.

In terms of occupation, students constitute the largest group of voters in Edo, with 868,764 students making up 33.05% of the electorate. Additionally, 4,199 individuals, or 0.16%, are Persons with Disabilities (PWD). The current voter register reflects a 4.9% increase compared to the figures from the 2023 General Elections, which recorded 2,501,081 registered voters.

For Ondo State, the final voter register includes 2,053,061 individuals. Of these, 1,034,006 (50.36%) are male, and 1,034,964 (47.89%) are female. The youth category, aged 18 to 35 years, comprises 726,944 voters (35.41%). The middle-aged group, aged 36 to 49, includes 721,982 voters. Together, these age groups form 1,448,926 voters, accounting for 70.57% of the total registered voters in Ondo.

Students are also the majority in Ondo, with 694,938 individuals representing 33.85% of the electorate. The state has 1,782 registered PWDs, which is 0.09% of the total voters. This new register shows a 3.0% increase over the 2023 General Elections, where 1,991,344 voters were recorded.
