“Nigeria In Political and Economic Intensive Care Unit” – Bode George

Chief Olabode George, a former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has called on President Bola Tinubu to rethink his administration’s approach to governance, particularly concerning policies that impact the nation’s youth.

Speaking during a press briefing in Lagos, George stressed the urgent need for the government to implement meaningful changes that will improve the quality of life for all Nigerians.

He highlighted the challenging situation in the country, comparing it to being in “an intensive care unit,” and pointed out the dire circumstances facing many citizens, particularly the younger generation.

George expressed concern over the government’s handling of the oil and gas sector, an area that has been a focal point of national debate. He criticized the confusion surrounding fuel subsidies, noting that the government has sent mixed signals on whether these subsidies still exist.

“Having been trained by this nation and worked for this country, if I see things not going the right direction and keep quiet, I will be failing. So, it is not a matter of fighting.

“Our country Nigeria is in a political and economic intensive care unit. So, we need proper surgeons- political surgeons and economic surgeons.

George emphasized the need for transparency, stating, “One day we hear about fuel subsidies, the next day there are claims that there are none. We need clarity and honesty.”

Regarding the ongoing protests, George commended the youth for their peaceful demonstrations, acknowledging their frustration with the current state of affairs.

He pointed out the challenges young Nigerians face, such as unemployment and food insecurity, and urged the government to take their concerns seriously.

Furthermore, George called for the implementation of policies aimed at boosting local agriculture, reducing inflation, and improving food security.

He also advocated for constitutional reforms, including the restructuring of government, power devolution, and resource control. He urged both President Tinubu and the National Assembly to revisit the recommendations made during the 2014 National Conference.

Lastly, George stressed the importance of addressing tribalism and religious divisions, which he believes are significant obstacles to Nigeria’s progress. He urged all Nigerians to work together to overcome these issues for the nation’s betterment.
