Kunle Wizeman Ajayi, the governorship candidate for the African Action Congress (AAC) in Ondo State, was reportedly detained by security forces during a protest in Akure.
The protest, which was part of the broader #EndBadGovernance movement, aimed to raise awareness about ongoing issues of governance and human rights in Nigeria.
Ajayi was not alone in the arrest; he was reportedly taken into custody alongside another activist, Patrick Owolabi. The arrests were carried out by officers of the Nigeria Police Force on Saturday, causing widespread concern among human rights advocates and political groups.
The Take It Back Movement, a prominent human rights organization, quickly responded to the news of the arrests.
In a statement posted on X, they voiced their strong opposition to the detentions and called for the immediate release of Ajayi and Owolabi. The organization stated, “It’s unfortunate that the @PoliceNG is yet to learn. The continued clampdown on peaceful #EndBadGovernceInNigeria protesters is a total shame. We condemn the unlawful arrest of Ajayi Wizeman & Patrick Owolabi in Ondo state and we demand their immediate and unconditional release!”
