The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the results for the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School Candidates. The announcement was made on Monday, August 12, 2024, through the official WAEC social media channels.
In a statement, WAEC informed candidates, “The West African Examinations Council is pleased to inform Candidates who sat WASSCE for School Candidates, 2024 that the result has officially been released today, Monday, August 12, 2024.”
During a press conference, Amos Dangut, the Head of WAEC Nigeria, revealed that out of the 1,805,216 students who registered for the examination, 1,685,889 results were released. This number represents 93.9% of the total candidates. Despite challenges such as insecurity affecting some examination areas, the results show a mixed performance.
Dangut reported that 1,332,089 candidates achieved credits in at least five subjects, including any subject with either Mathematics or English Language. Additionally, 1,301,949 candidates received credits in five subjects, including both Mathematics and English Language, making up 72.9% of the total candidates. However, this year’s performance shows a 7.6% decline compared to the previous year.
Moreover, 215,267 results were withheld due to examination malpractice, representing 11.92% of the total number of candidates.
