Former President Donald Trump is set to be interviewed live on X (formerly known as Twitter) by the platform’s billionaire owner, Elon Musk.
The interview is scheduled for Monday and comes at a crucial time for Trump as he works to reinvigorate his White House campaign, which has seen declining support in recent months.
Elon Musk, who is not only the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX but also a significant figure in U.S. politics, has been a controversial supporter of Trump.
Musk announced the upcoming interview on Sunday, describing it as “unscripted with no limits on subject matter, so should be highly entertaining!”
Musk’s influence on X has grown considerably, but he has also faced criticism for allegedly using the platform to amplify right-wing conspiracy theories.
Ahead of the interview, Trump, 78, returned to X for the first time in over a year, posting a campaign video where he positioned himself as a victim of a coordinated effort to “destroy” the United States.
The video appears to be part of his strategy to engage younger voters who might not attend rallies or watch conservative news, but are active on social media platforms like X.
Musk, 53, who has an estimated net worth of $235 billion, has frequently criticized President Joe Biden’s administration, especially their diversity and inclusion policies, which he refers to as the “woke mind virus.”
Musk has also voiced strong opposition to the Democrats’ approach to immigration, often sharing unverified information about undocumented immigrants and voter fraud.
The relationship between Trump and Musk has evolved over time. Initially, their interactions were marked by disagreements, but recent reports indicate that they have grown closer, frequently holding private conversations.
This shift in their relationship mirrors Musk’s increasing alignment with far-right viewpoints and his newfound popularity among Trump’s base.
Musk’s involvement in U.S. politics is not limited to his support for Trump. Although he previously endorsed Trump’s rival, Ron DeSantis, during a campaign launch on X, Musk has now fully endorsed Trump. This endorsement came shortly after Trump narrowly survived an assassination attempt at a rally.
